what we believe
We believe in Jesus Christ. After that, what we believe as individuals varies from person to person. We allow for personal liberty in scriptural interpretation. We encourage a personal relationship with God lived out in the context of community. We believe that God is speaking to each of us, active in each of our lives and that our understanding of who God is can be different. We believe that God invites all to the table.
We are part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination, which was formed in 1832 and grew out of two movements seeking Christian unity.
As part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we believe:
-
God is revealed to us in many ways, but especially through Jesus of Nazareth who we know as Christ.
-
The Bible is our guide for Christian living and faith, with each person free to explore and interpret the scripture as God's spirit leads. There is no "test of fellowship." In decisions of faith, the individual is responsible to God only.
-
The Unity of all Christians is founded on the love of Christ. Doctrines and human differences should not be allowed to divide believers from each other.
-
Baptism is by immersion, although baptism by other forms is recognized in those transferring their membership.
-
The Lord's Supper (Communion) is celebrated each Sunday and is open to all who love the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
That we should proclaim the Good News and saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and to follow His command to love one another.
